Terms of Service
Last updated July 2026
By using Cogent you agree to these terms. They're meant to be fair and straightforward.
Who can use Cogent
Cogent requires sign-in via Google, Facebook, or LinkedIn. Your display name comes from the OAuth provider you sign in with and reflects your real identity. Anonymous accounts are not permitted.
Your content
You own the essays and comments you publish on Cogent. By submitting content, you grant us a non-exclusive licence to display and distribute it on the platform. You can delete your content at any time.
You are responsible for ensuring your content does not infringe on anyone else's copyright or rights.
The AI review process
All comments and submitted essays are reviewed by an AI before being posted publicly. The AI evaluates for relevance, logical soundness, and quality of reasoning — and provides coaching feedback when a submission needs improvement.
AI review is a best-effort quality filter, not a guarantee of accuracy or fairness. We reserve the right to remove any content that violates these terms regardless of AI verdict.
What's not allowed
You may not use Cogent to post content that is abusive, harassing, defamatory, or illegal. Spam, coordinated inauthentic behaviour, and attempts to game or abuse the AI review system are prohibited. We reserve the right to remove content and suspend accounts that violate these terms.
Platform availability
We do our best to keep Cogent running reliably, but we make no guarantees of uptime or availability. We may modify or discontinue the service at any time.
Limitation of liability
Cogent is provided as-is. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any damages arising from your use of the platform.
